Advisory Comittee Biographies

Yi Wang, Ph.D. of TCM

Dr. Wang is our honoured resident professor representative on the Advisory Board, having joined the PCU faculty in the spring of 2004. Dr. Wang gained his undergraduate and graduate credentials at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. In the beginning of his career, Dr. Wang held the position of Doctor for 4 years at the well-established Tainquan Hospital in Sichuan. After gaining the terminal degree in TCM, Dr. Wang held the title of professor for 5 years at his alma mater as well as the position of clinic supervisor at the university hospital. Since coming to Canada in 1999, Dr. Wang is currently teaching as a guest lecturer at the Canadian College of Oriental Medicine and Oshio College of Acupuncture and Herbology in Victoria. Dr. Wang is a licensed Practitioner of Chinese Medicine, registered since 2002 with the CTCMA of BC. He also runs his own successful TCM practice, the Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal Clinic in Chilliwack, BC.

Colleen Robinson, M.A.

Ms. Robinson is our honoured student member, who is currently in her second year of study at PCU. Ms. Robinson brings to the PCU Advisory Committee not only her first-hand understanding of the program from a student’s perspective, but also her experience as a scholar and teacher. Ms. Robinson holds an M.A. in English Language and Literature, with an undergraduate background in Drama. Her academic accomplishments are complemented by her extensive teaching experience. Ms. Robinson has been a guest lecturer and teaching assistant at Queen’s University and the University of Alberta, as well as an instructor and acting coach for 8 years. Additional experience in journalism and fine arts makes Ms. Robinson a valuable and well-rounded member of our committee.

Kwang Yang, MD

Dr. Yang is an internationally recognized figure in the world of medicine. He is licensed to practice as a physician in Canada, China, England, and Hong Kong and holds certificates in a multitude of specialties including Acupuncture, Cardiac Life Support and Trauma Life Support. Dr. Yang began his career after his graduation from National Taiwan University Medical School in 1969 and has held a family practice in Canada since 1971. His participation in BC’s medical society is exemplary. Too numerous to list, Dr. Yang holds memberships in 16 different medical organizations throughout Canada, including member of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Canadian Medical Society and the Canadian Health Awareness Society. Beyond his present memberships, Dr. Yang holds in posterity several presidencies, vice-presidencies and directorships of various health and community organizations, such as the Chinese Mental Wellness Association and the B.C. Hepatitis B Society. Dr. Yang has publications to his credit including the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists (CTCMA) Mandatory Safety Course Textbook, the standard for licensing in BC. Dr. Yang’s fruitful career has been acknowledged in the form of awards from the Canadian Diabetes Association, the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Dr. Cam Coady Foundation.

Bob Rose, Ph.D.

Dr. Rose is our committee’s esteemed authority on higher education administration. In addition to his Ph.D. in Educational Administration, Higher Education from the University of Alberta, Dr. Rose has nearly 30 years of experience as a senior administrator of advanced education. During this time, Dr. Rose was Academic Vice-President/Dean and subsequently President of the Canadian Bible College and
Theological Seminary. In 1996, Dr. Rose’s career turned more directly towards Clerical administration, and was Executive Pastor of Pacific Community Church until 2002. Presently, Dr. Rose is the Principal of InVision Coaching & Consulting Services, which provides consulting and executive coaching for not-for-profit boards and leaders. Dr. Rose shares his expertise through his participation on several councils and boards, including Peace Portal Counseling Centre, Overseas Council Canada and the Canadian Council of Christian Charities. Canada has recognized Dr. Rose’s many contributions to the community by awarding him with the Canada 125 Medal. Dr. Rose is generously dedicating himself to our PCU College Advisory Committee.

Liping Cai, Dr. TCM

Dr. Cai is one of our valued professionals of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Cai has practiced in the field of TCM for over 30 years in China and Canada. During his career in TCM he has gained years of teaching and senior administrative experience at several TCM colleges. Dr. Cai graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine in TCM from Traditional Chinese Medical College of Guangzhou in China. Through years of traveling, practicing and teaching, has come to be a licensed Dr. of TCM practicing at the Harmony TCM & Acupuncture Clinic in Vancouver. Dr. Cai does much to support this growing industry in Canada through his participation on several TCM related committees. This includes his role as First Vice Chairman of the BC Qualified Acupuncturists and TCM Association and Executive Director of the United Acupuncturist and TCM Association of B.C. Dr. Cai’s expertise as a TCM professional creates a vital connection between PCU and the world of TCM.

Anne Coulombe, Ed.M.

As the respected Principal of Our Lady of Sorrows School (est. 1926), Mrs. Coulombe brings the PCU advisory committee great experience and knowledge in the field of education administration. Mrs. Coulombe has 42 years of experience in the field of education, spanning from elementary to university. Since obtaining her Master’s in Education, she has been involved in various forms of curriculum development, including specialized workshops for educators and parents. In 1982, Mrs. Coulombe established an advocacy group aimed at addressing the needs of exceptional children, which lead to her starting a program in 1986 for children with special needs. During her work in this field, Mrs. Coulombe was involved in a 3-year intensive early childhood literacy project, resulting in the Addison Wesley publication Favorites, Friendship, Food and Fantasy (1994). This work subsequently established a parish-operated preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds, which still operates today. Presently, Our Lady of Sorrows is supporting the field of education by granting practicums to UBC graduate students as well as Western Town College students. Mrs. Coulombe is an active member of Phi Delta Kappa and the Catholic Independent Schools of Vancouver Archdiocese Administrators’ Association (CISVAAA). She has recently completed the Enriched Pre-School/Kindergarten Montessori Teacher Training Program. Currently, she is exploring work in neuro-psychology and early childhood education.

Faculty and Staff Biographies

Zhaozhi Cheng, Dr. TCM (China), Professor

Professor Cheng graduated from the six-year TCM major program at the HuBei College of TCM University in 1967. He worked as a TCM physician and later became a professor and a TCM PhD program mentor at the same university. Over his 40 years of practice, Professor Cheng conducted seven different scientific research projects granted by the Government of China. He published 75 academic papers in national and international TCM journals. He is frequently invited to speak at international TCM conferences as well. Professor Cheng is also the chief editor of the “TCM Diagnostics” textbook, one of the standard textbooks for all TCM universities in China.

John Yang received his five years medical training in medicine from the Medical School of Hainan University in 1983. He got the position as an assistant professor in the same university. He received further TCM training in the Provincial TCM Hospital of Hainan. He has 22 years of practicing and teaching experience. He is the former president of B.C. Qualified Acupuncturists & TCM Practitioners Association. Dr. Yang was elected as board director of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA) in 2005.

Kathryn Tian, M.S (China), Dr. TCM, Instructor

Kathryn Tian received her Master degree in TCM from Beijing TCM University. She worked as TCM specialist in the department of oncology at GuangAnMen hospital in Beijing. She has 8 years instructor experience. She is specialized in teaching TCM Foundation, TCM Diagnosis and Clinical Internship.

Yi Wang, PH. D (China), R.TCMP, Instructor

Yi Wang received his Master and Ph. D in TCM from the Chengdu TCM University. He later became a professor working in the teaching hospital of Chengdu TCM University. He has 22 years in practicing and teaching TCM. He specializes in teaching TCM Clinical Science, TCM Classics and Herbal Case Studies.

Wen Qian (Wendy) Xu, M.S (China), Dr. TCM, Instructor

Wendy Xu received her Master’s degree in Acupuncture from the Fujian TCM University. She also gained the clinical experience from her mother & grandmother who are well-known TCM Doctors in China. She is specialized in teaching Acupoints & Meridians, Acupuncture Techniques and Acupuncture Therapy.

Jimiao Han, Ph. D (China), R. TCMP, Instructor

Jimiao Han received his Ph. D in TCM from Shandong University. He has 6 years of clinical experience at Shandong Hospital of TCM internal medicine department. He also has five years of TCM instructor at Shandong Minjin College of Medicine and Shandong Hongxing College of Medicine. He specializes in teaching Herbal Formula, TCM Internal Medicine.

Flora Fang, M.S (China), Dr. TCM, Instructor

Flora Fang received her Master degree in Combining TCM with Western Medicine from Shanghai TCM University. She has 15 experiences in the Chinese Medicine Research & Clinical Practice at Hangzhou Red Cross Hospital. She also has 5 years experience as a TCM instructor. She is specialized in teaching Herbology and Herbal Formula.

Shu Sheng Tai, M.S., Ph. D (Japan), R. Ac., Instructor

Shushen Tai received his Bachelor and Master degree of TCM from Nanjing University of TCM of China. He earned his PhD. of Oriental Herbal Pharmacology from Kumamoto University of Japan. He was a Research Associate in the University of Alberta. He has over 20 years clinical and teaching experience. He teaches TCM Foundation & TCM Herbology.

Zhen Tao Lin, M.S., Ph. D candidate (China), Instructor
                             

Zhen Tao Lin received his Master degree in Pharmacology from Guangzhou Medical College. He was a Ph. D candidate of ZhongShan University of China. He has 18 years of teaching experience in the field of Pharmacology as an associate professor of Pharmacology department in Guangzhou Medical College. He specializes in teaching Western medicine courses such as Pharmacology and Diagnosis.

Tao Song, Ph. D (China), R. TCMP, Instructor
                                      

Tao Song received her Ph. D in Gynecology from the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She was an associate professor at the department of Reproductive Health in Family Planning Research Institute of Sichuan. She has 17 years teaching experience. She specializes in teaching TCM Gynecology and Internship.

Yafei (Ivy) Zhang, Ph. D (China), Instructor

Ivy Zhang, a former professor of Jinan University, received her Ph. D in medicine from the Second Military Medical University in Shanghai. She was a Visiting Scholar of Hong Kong University, is a former Teaching Assistant in the Simon Fraser University Gerontology Dept. Dr. Zhang has over 20 years teaching and research experiences. She specializes in teaching Biomedical Science.

Lina Wei, Ph. D (Japan), Instructor

Lina Wei received her Master’s degree in medicine at the Norman Bethune University in China and her Ph. D in Pathology at Japanese Medical University in Japan She was an associate professor at the Shenyang Medical University from 1979 to 1994 and teaching assistance at Japanese Medical University from 1994 to 2001. She specializes in teaching Anatomy, Physiology.

David Song, B.S (China), Dr. TCM, Instructor

David Song received his Bachelor degree in TCM Orthopedics & Traumatic Injured from Beijing TCM University. He has practiced as a TCM doctor at Ji ShuiTan hospital in Beijing. He is specialized in teaching Orthopedics & Traumatic Injured and Acupressure/Tuina.

Theresa Zhang, B.S (China), Dr. TCM, Instructor

Theresa Zhang received her Bachelor Degree in TCM from the Shanghai TCM University. She has more than 14 years of clinical and teaching experience at different hospitals. She is specialized in teaching TCM Pediatrics and Practice Management & Ethics.


Lili Wang, M.S (China), R. Ac., Instructor

Lili Wang received her Master Degree in Acupuncture/Qigong in the TCM Academy of China. She was an associate professor in the TCM University of Hubei. She has 21 years of TCM practice and teaching experience. She is specialized in teaching, Meridian & Acupoint Study, Acupuncture Technique and Acupuncture Therapy.

CunHai Yu, Ph. D (China), R. Ac., Instructor

Cunhai Yu received his Master Degree in Acupuncture & Moxibustion from the TCM University of ChangChun. He also earns his Doctor Degree in Acupuncture & Moxibustion from the TCM University of HuBei. He has over 17 years clinical and teaching experience. He is specializing teach Meridians/Acupoints and Acupuncture Technique.

Charmaine Bi, M.S (China), R. TCMP, Instructor

Charmaine Bi received her Master Degree in TCM from the Beijing TCM University. She has over twelve year clinical and teaching experience. She is specializing teach TCM Fundamental Courses of TCM.

Paul Hatch, Doctor of Chiropractic

Paul Hatch received his doctor of Chiropractic training from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He is a registered doctor of Chiropractic in B.C. He is specializing teach Biomedical Science Courses in the Spa Therapy Program.

Nadia Petrova, RMT

Nadia Petrova is a Registered Massage Therapist in BC. She practices massage therapy more than 20 years. She teaches Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Prenatal/Infant Massage.

Sonia Lam, RMT

Sonia Lam is a Registered Massage Therapist in BC. She has over 10 clinical and teaching experience. She is specializing in Sports Massage and Therapeutic Stretching.

Suzanne Duclos

Suzanne Duclos works in spa industry over ten years. She is specializing in Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Hydrotherapy.
